Protocols and policies regarding the academic year 2020/2021

Dear parents,

I would like to start this newsletter by hoping that everybody is keeping safe during these unusual times. All of us need to remind our children that this so-called ‘new normal’ is a temporary change. One day and hopefully relatively soon we will be through this COVID-19 period and back to the normal we used to take for granted.
In the meantime however, it is important that we all recognise the need to behave differently and accept social constraints which have implications for how we and our children behave socially in the short run.
Summarizing our current protocols, policies as well as rules and regulations in cooperation with parents and students:
Please ensure that your child has his/her face shield (kg1-primary6) or face mask (preparatory and secondary stage) with a nametag on it and also personal anti-bacterial wet wipes, not spray or sanitizer as the school will be providing this.
Students will be spaced out over many classes according to the days they will be attending, ensuring a maximum of 20 students per classroom.
Cleaning and sterilizing the whole school will be a daily routine even in the weekend.
If a child has any COVID-19 symptoms in the morning they must stay at home along with any siblings and the school should be informed through phone or email. Parents are not to worry about catching up or missing parts of the curriculum, as the school is well prepared for displaying online education through its personal channels as well as repeating lectures or explanations of all chapters and units in all subjects alongside videos, quizzes, Q and A’s and support sheets (Edmodo)
Parents will be given a chance to be updated weekly on their childs progress through the Edmodo channels that will be between the students and staff members, as the Edmodo online application enables a chat to take place between parents and teachers when asking about the students’ progress or any relevant educational inquires. This is beneficial for parents that want to feel safe at home instead of coming weekly to school for teacher meetings.
Parents should be ready at pickup time, according to their specific yeargroup timings, as the school doesn’t want to have students in the waiting area, in order to minimize contact and overcrowdness during this pandemic.
Every kid will have an individual chair on the bus. There will be a limited number of seats this year as each bus will have a maximum of 25-28 students. First come, first served. Buses will be sterilized daily as a normal routine.
For any inquiries or complaints there will be channels of contacting the school directly through the phone lines and emails as well as immediate replies, in order to ensure that parents and family members that prefer to stay at home for safety measures are happy and fulfilled without having to enter the school.
Temperature check via the school security at the gate will be prior upon entering, as well as wearing a mask will be essential by adults on campus.
If a child develops COVID-19 symptoms during the day they will be isolated in the medical quarantine room and parents will be asked to come and collect them and their siblings.
There will be two private doctors that will be taking shifts throughout the entire full day.
The school will be taking detailed measures in terms of daily temperatures checks on teachers and the entire workforce, as well as close monitoring of any covid symptoms that appear.
If a pupil tests positive for COVID-19 the child and any siblings must self isolate at home for 14 days. All children in the family will need a negative test before returning to school. If the pupil has recently been in school, the bubble will go to distance learning for 14 days. In the event of a parent or family household member being a confirmed case, the school should be informed and all children in that household will self isolate for 14 days. Pupils will need a negative test result before returning to school. In the event of a staff member being a confirmed case, the bubbles that staff member works with will close and contact tracing takes place.
At this time we recognise that all of us are susceptible to infection and the safety of our community requires openness and frankness so we can protect bubbles and contact trace. We really appreciate the openness and support of the families.

Many thanks

Stay safe
